A TikTok video circulating this week captured a self-checkout kiosk in an airport shop prompting travellers to select an 18% tip before completing their purchase, DV reported. The specific airport, shop, and whether tipping is required or optional have not been identified.

The video was posted by Dr. Clay Moss, who filmed himself interacting with the touchscreen kiosk as it requested a tip. His reaction to the automated prompt has since garnered attention both online and in Icelandic media.

“Is the state of the world like this?” Dr. Moss said in the video, according to a translation reported by DV. He added that he was astonished to see a tip suggestion automatically appear, especially at a self-service checkout in an airport setting.
