Icy road conditions this morning affected the Capital Region, the Southern Region and much of Vesturland, according to Icelandic media reports. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (Vegagerðin) urged drivers to be cautious on Wednesday because road surfaces were icy. The alert was reported by Vísir.

The Southern Region is one of Iceland’s main regions; its largest town is Selfoss. Icy conditions were also reported widely in Vesturland and in the Capital Region, Iceland’s urban centre. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration is a government agency responsible for the construction, management and maintenance of highways, minor roads and harbours in Iceland. It operates under the Ministry of Infrastructure and was established in 1918.
