Icelandair has called on Alþingi, Iceland’s parliament, to allocate nearly ISK 700 million (Icelandic krónur) to strengthen border controls at Keflavík International Airport, Iceland’s primary gateway for international flights. The request was reported by Iceland Monitor (mbl.is).

The airline voiced its serious concern regarding the absence of additional police funding for the Suðurnes region in the government’s proposed budget for next year. Suðurnes is the region where Keflavík International Airport is located and where border control responsibilities fall to the local police force.

Icelandair communicated its request directly to the Budget Committee of Alþingi. The company emphasised the need for the additional funds to support police operations and maintain secure border procedures at the busy international hub. However, the parliament’s budget bill currently does not contain any proposed increase in funding for this purpose.
