Iceland does not appear on the list of 36 countries published by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. The list was released earlier today, and the national broadcaster RÚV has yet to announce any plans to participate next year. The Icelandic news outlet Vísir was among the first to report the absence.

The EBU stated that the 36 participating broadcasters, confirmed for next year’s contest, collectively reach almost 600 million viewers according to Vísir. Iceland was not included among these broadcasters.

DV, another Icelandic outlet, suggested that Iceland’s absence may be tied to the fact that Israel is set to participate in Eurovision 2027. However, neither the EBU nor RÚV have given an official reason for Iceland’s omission, and there has been no comment from RÚV regarding a final decision on participation.

Background

RÚV is Iceland’s national public broadcaster. Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between Europe and North America.
