Matthías Freyr Matthíasson, a 46-year-old lawyer in Iceland, has shared the story of his recent diagnosis with colorectal cancer, describing the impact the illness has had on his life. Matthías wrote a first-person account of his experiences for the Icelandic news site Vísir, which was also reported on by other outlets, including DV and Mannlíf.
According to Matthías, he had suffered from severe and regular abdominal pain for some time before seeking medical attention. After his diagnosis in April, further examinations found that the cancer had already spread to his liver.
“Fuck, I have colorectal cancer!” Matthías wrote, recounting the moment he was told about his illness (translation from Icelandic). He also described the shock of receiving the news, writing: “I was told I had colorectal cancer.”
Since receiving his diagnosis, Matthías has undergone two operations and is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy, as reported by DV. His personal account on Vísir details the physical and emotional challenges he has faced in recent months.
