Two documentaries about people and events in Norðurland vestra (Iceland’s Northwestern Region) were showcased at the recent Reykjavík International Film Festival. The news was first reported by Bændablaðið.

‘Ævintýri á hestbaki’ was among the films screened, inviting audiences to experience narratives rooted in this rural part of Iceland. Another documentary, ‘Vegur 75 um Tröllaskarð, Álög Grímu’, was also featured at the festival.

The Northwestern Region is one of Iceland’s eight traditional regions, located in the north of the country. The area is known for natural landmarks such as the basalt rock Hvítserkur, and its largest town is Sauðárkrókur. Reykjavík, the capital and largest city of Iceland, hosted the film festival.
