Businesswoman Katrín Pétursdóttir is providing the main financing for a new private hospital, Litli spítalinn, which will soon open in Reykjavík, with healthcare personnel holding a majority ownership share. The hospital will operate from the former headquarters of Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland, at Háaleitisbraut 68. This development was first reported by mbl.is.

Guðrún Ása Björnsdóttir, one of the hospital’s operators, described Katrín Pétursdóttir as the “anchor investor” in the project, according to a statement published by mbl.is. Pétursdóttir recently sold her company Lýsi, a well-known Icelandic producer of fish oil products, to the fishing company Brim; the sale highlights her significant business experience and resources being brought to the new hospital venture.

The former Landsvirkjun headquarters will undergo extensive renovations before the hospital opens its doors. The operators have announced that Litli spítalinn will begin operations soon, but they have not specified an exact opening date.

Healthcare personnel will hold a majority ownership share in the new institution, according to mbl.is. The full list of owners has not yet been made public.
