Hallgrímskirkja, the prominent Lutheran church in Reykjavík, is one of Iceland’s most frequently visited and admired landmarks, Vísir reports, noting its popularity and the way its tower aligns with the mountain Keilir. The church draws the attention of countless travellers, especially those making their way from Keflavík International Airport to the city.

The church’s tower and nave stand tall above Reykjavík and the surrounding buildings, making Hallgrímskirkja a distinctive point on the city’s skyline. The striking architecture, recognized both by visitors and architecture schools, continues to spark interest in Iceland and abroad.

One particular feature noted by Vísir is the visual alignment of Hallgrímskirkja’s tower with the mountain Keilir. When seen from the district of Kjalarnes, this alignment creates a magical sight that captivates many travellers passing through the area. For those travelling through Kjalarnes, seeing the church’s tower line up exactly with Keilir is considered an enchanting experience.

Kjalarnes, the least populous district of Reykjavík, provides these unique views as travellers enter the capital region. The area, once an independent municipality, is situated near several well-known landmarks including the mountain Esja.
