Airbnb will ban hosts in Iceland from requiring guests to perform household chores such as washing dishes, taking out the trash, or stripping bed linens before departure. The new rules address longstanding complaints from guests about being obliged to complete tasks despite also being charged cleaning fees, Vísir reports.

The policy, which is part of a wider international change by Airbnb, aims to limit time-consuming or burdensome requirements at checkout. According to DV, Airbnb informed its hosts about the new rules in an email sent on Wednesday.

With the new regulation, hosts can no longer penalize guests for failing to perform chores such as taking out the rubbish or washing dishes. These rules apply to all Airbnb bookings made on or after 20 November.
