A newly established Icelandic opera company will begin its work with an event titled ‘Undir sömu stjörnu’, according to Bæjarins besta. The initiative marks a new chapter for the country’s opera scene, offering multiple performances around Iceland.

The opera plans to stage a total of five performances at venues around the country. Specific details about the other towns or venues have not yet been announced.

The performances are set to start at Hof concert hall in Akureyri on 18 October. Akureyri is the largest town in northern Iceland, sometimes called the Capital of North Iceland, and serves as an important port and fishing centre.

According to the organisers, the tour will cover the entire country with the exception of the Westfjords, a remote and mountainous peninsula in north-west Iceland. There is no information yet about the company’s founders or its director.
