There are currently no veterinarians available in a large area of Southeast Iceland, leaving animal owners without crucial services, according to a report from RÚV on Thursday.

Local animal owners on the Southeast coast have been without veterinary care for just over two months. With no local professionals available, some are forced to drive long distances when their animals need emergency attention.

According to RÚV, there has been little change in veterinary staffing in the region; persistent shortages continue to affect the area. The Chair of the Veterinary Association of Iceland commented, “Nothing has moved in the matter.”
