The government of Iceland has made advancement of Icelandic and Icelandic Sign Language a priority in its education policy for 2021–2030, according to a recent report by Vísir. This matters for inclusive education and for efforts to preserve and support minority language use.

While the inclusion of both languages as priorities is highlighted, Vísir reports that questions remain about what practical steps the policy provides, particularly regarding Icelandic Sign Language. The article points out that the lack of specific measures for the language of a particular group of children raises concern about what it means for a policy to truly be ‘for all’.
