Iceland’s Studio Suð: a tiny two-storey gallery with big ideas

Markús and Heiðbjört Arney have transformed a small stair-house into what Vísir calls 'probably the smallest two-storey gallery in the world.' Their creative space blends art, design and sound. Its interdisciplinary approach brings art, design and sound together in a compact public space.

A couple in Iceland have turned an unassuming stair-house into what is described as ‘probably the smallest two-storey gallery in the world,’ according to Vísir. The creative space, known as Studio Suð, is run by the married duo Markús and Heiðbjört Arney.

Studio Suð is a creative collaboration: Markús, an artist working across visual art, design and sound, leads the creative side. Operations are managed by Heiðbjört, creating a partnership that combines artistic vision with practical support.

Speaking to Vísir, the couple shared the origins of their unusual gallery space. “We thought it was a shame to let this little stair-house just be a stair-house. Why not change it?” they said, reflecting their imaginative approach to spaces and art.
