A key section of the Ring Road (Hringvegur) in southeast Iceland is closed between the Almannaskarð tunnels and Djúpivogur due to strong winds and blowing sand. The closure and weather warnings were first reported by RÚV, Iceland’s national public broadcaster.

Yellow warnings for southwest strong winds have been issued for all regions of Iceland, authorities said. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration shared the closure information on its traffic website Umferdin.is.

Travellers and road users are being urged to drive carefully in all affected areas, as conditions remain hazardous.
