A land-based fish farm project called Laxey in Vestmannaeyjar, a municipality and archipelago off the south coast of Iceland, is described as one of the world’s largest land-based farms, according to a report by Bændablaðið.
Construction of Laxey’s facility in Vestmannaeyjar is well advanced, though the final stage is not yet complete, Bændablaðið reported.
Laxey has begun selling salmon on foreign markets, marking an operational milestone for the project even as construction continues. The company has also started selling smolt, or juvenile salmon, to other Icelandic fish-farming companies, which then raise the fish to slaughter size.
