Major construction work is underway next to the Forest Lagoon in Akureyri, where a new hotel is scheduled to open next year, Iceland Monitor (mbl.is) reported.

The project consists of a 10,500-square-metre hotel with 120 rooms. Among the amenities planned are 13 suites and a 500-square-metre spa, according to mbl.is. The facility will also include an underground parking garage for 75 cars.

The Forest Lagoon, which is situated near the hotel site, is owned by Finnur Aðalbjörnsson.

Akureyri, located in north Iceland, is the country’s largest town outside the capital region and is known as the Capital of North Iceland. It serves as an important port and fishing centre.
