A three-year European project called RECET has recently concluded, according to a report from Icelandic outlet Kaffið. The initiative brought together partner organisations from five countries to share experiences on how municipalities can strengthen energy transitions and climate action in regions with low population densities, and produced learnings and strategies to help municipalities manage the ongoing challenges of climate change and energy system transformation.
In Northeast Iceland, several municipalities took part in RECET through cooperation with SSNE and Eimur, which are local organisations that facilitated strategy development as part of the project. Their efforts focused on creating approaches tailored to the unique needs of sparsely populated areas, aiming to make energy transitions and climate actions more effective and sustainable.
RECET stands for Regional Cooperation for Energy Transition, and the project sought to identify and exchange practices suitable for rural and remote communities across Europe. The learnings and strategies developed during RECET’s three years are expected to help these municipalities manage the ongoing challenges of climate change and energy system transformation.
