The best skyr in the Nordic countries this year is not Icelandic, but Danish, according to judges at an international food competition held in Herning, Denmark. Experts awarded the top prize to a vanilla-flavoured skyr produced in Denmark by Arla, one of the region’s major dairy companies, RÚV reported.
Thise, another Danish dairy company that has previously worked with Iceland’s Mjólkursamsalan (MS), finished second in the competition, RÚV said. The collaboration history highlights ongoing cross-border ties in the region’s dairy industry.
As for Iceland, skyr produced by Mjólkursamsalan and Örnu won the silver medal among all entries at this year’s event, according to mbl.is. Four skyr products from Mjólkursamsalan were rated at 14.20 out of a possible 15 points, just 0.40 points short of the winning Danish entry in the skyr category.
