Fresh farmed salmon from Icelandic company Arnarlax reached China on the first ever direct flight between Iceland and Beijing, a development for Icelandic exporters, and the event was first reported by Bæjarins besta. The salmon shipment departed from Keflavík International Airport, Iceland’s main international gateway about 50 kilometres south-west of Reykjavík, and marked a new chapter in direct air links between the two countries.
According to reports, direct flights between Iceland and Beijing began on Monday. Arnarlax stated that the shipment reached its buyer in China only 18 hours after taking off from Keflavík and that the entire process proceeded smoothly.
The milestone was celebrated last night local time at the Icelandic embassy in Beijing, where a large crowd gathered for the occasion. Officials highlighted that this December marks 55 years since diplomatic relations were established between Iceland and China. The ceremony began with a speech by Bergdís Ellertsdóttir, who is the eighth Icelandic ambassador to China.
