Around 200 passengers aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey, a ship operating a continuous world-cruise, were given only a few hours’ notice to leave the vessel after the US company Villa Vie Residences ceased operations. The passengers disembarked in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, according to reports from mbl.is and Vísir.

The project, launched by Villa Vie Residences, began its voyage in October 2024 with ambitions to visit almost 150 countries over three and a half years. Passengers, who lived on board as residents, now face uncertainty about their onward travel and accommodation, as it is not yet clear how these arrangements will be handled or if they are able to leave Cambodia.

Villa Vie Residences did not make public the exact reasons for the sudden end to operations. Reports indicate residents and passengers were informed with short notice, causing significant disruption to their travel and living plans. The company had marketed the cruise as a long-term, global residence for those wishing to travel the world by sea.
