Descendants of Iceland’s last official executioner continue to live at Illugastaðir, the remote Icelandic farm where two notorious beheadings took place, Vísir reports.
The executions were carried out after Friðrik and Agnes were convicted of murdering two men, one of whom was the farmer at Illugastaðir; the farm’s name is now closely linked to this dark chapter in the nation’s history.
Guðmundur Ketilsson, brother of the murdered farmer, was hired to carry out the executions of Friðrik and Agnes. After performing the beheadings, Guðmundur settled at Illugastaðir himself.
A lasting legacy on the farm
