The first direct flight between Keflavík International Airport and Beijing took off today. The milestone was first reported by RÚV English, which quoted passengers and diplomats on its significance.
Keflavík International Airport, located about 50 kilometres south-west of Reykjavík, is Iceland’s main international gateway. The addition of this direct route to Beijing is expected to increase travel convenience for passengers from Iceland and neighbouring regions.
One passenger on the inaugural flight summed up the significance of the new service, saying, “Just one plane and you’re in China.” According to RÚV English, the new connection aims to make travel between the countries more straightforward.
China’s ambassador described the launch as transformative, stating the new flight will reshape relations between Iceland and China.
