Airbnb guests in Iceland will no longer be required to wash dishes or take out the trash before checking out after the company introduced new rules. The updated policies, reported by Vísir, are part of a wider international change by Airbnb intended to limit the household chores guests must perform during their stay.
According to news reports, the new rules are intended to reduce the number of tasks guests are asked to complete, such as tidying up after themselves. Airbnb has said the changes come after numerous complaints from guests who reported being required to complete task lists, even after paying cleaning fees.
Under the new international policy, hosts can no longer fine guests for not completing chores. The company stated that its aim is to make departures easier for guests by removing time-consuming or burdensome tasks from the checkout process, such as long lists of chores.
The new rules will apply to bookings made on or after 20 November. It is not yet known how Icelandic hosts or guests will respond to the changes.
