A search for the remains of Lúðvík Pétursson is set to begin tomorrow in Grindavík, the fishing town on Iceland’s Southern Peninsula. According to RÚV English, the search will be launched by rescue teams working on behalf of the Suðurnes Police Commissioner.
Police announced that the operation will begin at around 9 a.m. at Vesturhóp 29. Authorities have stated that the purpose is to recover the body of Lúðvík Pétursson, who is believed to have perished after falling into a sinkhole that formed during a period of intense volcanic activity in the town in January 2024.
Lúðvík Pétursson disappeared in January after falling into a fissure that opened in Grindavík. Rescue teams and police have since been planning efforts to locate his remains. The exact circumstances leading up to the incident have not been fully detailed by officials, but the search teams are preparing the site this Monday ahead of the scheduled operation.
