Some hotels located in Iceland’s rural areas have decided to limit their services during the coming winter months, with a number of them planning to temporarily close. According to reports from mbl.is, these measures are set to affect both individual travelers and local visitors seeking remote stays over the colder season.

Among the accommodations taking action, the hotel at Kerlingarfjöll will close to general bookings between November and March. During this timeframe, the hotel will continue to accept group bookings, mbl.is reported. It is not yet known why the hotels are reducing services or closing, nor have the hotels provided detailed explanations.

Kerlingarfjöll is a volcanic mountain massif in the Highlands of Iceland, positioned near the Kjölur highland road. Since 2000, the area has operated as a highland resort, serving guests with accommodation and food options in this remote highland region.
