Children in Iceland who are placed in emergency care by child protection services are not subject to regular monitoring, according to a report by RÚV English. This lack of oversight affects a particularly vulnerable group of children, the broadcaster found.

The Association of Foster Parents told RÚV English that some children remain in emergency foster placements for as long as eight years, even though the law allows such stays for only three months. The reasons that enable these lengthy placements were not detailed in the current report.
