The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (Vegagerðin) today warned that many roads across Iceland are affected by patches of ice or slippery spots, with black ice reported on Mýrdalssand and slush on major routes including Sandskeið, the South Coast Road (Suðurstrandarvegur), and Krýsuvíkurvegur. The warning came after staff from the agency checked road conditions this morning and found most regions experiencing slippery surfaces, according to RÚV, Vísir and mbl.is.
Drivers are being advised to take special care, including in the capital area around Reykjavík, where roads are slippery after an overnight freeze. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration noted that conditions can be hazardous following freezing temperatures and that many areas could see widespread overnight frost in the coming days.
Today’s weather brings southerly or variable winds at 3–10 metres per second, with isolated showers or sleet showers and some brighter intervals forecast in North Iceland. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain around 1 to 7 degrees Celsius, with the mildest conditions in the Eastfjords and southeast. Tomorrow, winds are predicted to turn northerly, bringing further showers or sleet showers.
