All of the largest US technology companies have investigated the possibility of building data centers in Iceland, according to reporting by Vísir. The country has been considered for major new projects in the data infrastructure sector.
However, the scale of the projects being considered is much larger than what Iceland’s existing electricity grid can support, Vísir reported. This poses a significant obstacle to any immediate plans for large developments by international firms.
As a result, it is not seen as realistic for very large data-center projects to be built in Iceland within the next five to seven years based on the current infrastructure and grid capacity.
