Civil protection authorities in East Iceland have issued an appeal for boat and ship owners in the Eastfjords region to check and secure their vessels and floats. The warning, reported by local news outlet Austurfrétt, comes as weather forecasts indicate challenging conditions at sea.

Heavy rain was observed in the Eastfjords on the morning of the announcement. In addition to rainfall, forecasts predict that a very high, heavy wave could impact the region, with the potential to exceed 10 metres in height, according to Austurfrétt.

Civil protection officials have taken these steps as a precaution to limit damage to boats and property. Details about which fjords or harbours are expected to be most affected, as well as the duration of the adverse weather, have not yet been specified by authorities.
