A long-standing Icelandic weather record was surpassed on October 14, 2026, when the October low air-pressure value, set in 1963, was broken. The new record was first reported by mbl.is, one of Iceland’s leading news outlets.

Barometric readings at Fagurhólsmýri, a weather station in the Öræfi region of southeast Iceland, documented the country’s lowest air pressure of the day, reaching 934.2 hPa at 05:00. Meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörsson told mbl.is: “It appears to me that the air pressure went lowest today at Fagurhólsmýri in Öræfi.” (translated quote).
