A serious fire broke out today at the building known as ‘Arnarhreiðri’ (the Eagle’s Nest) in Germany, a site associated with Hitler, and had not yet been extinguished as of the latest reports, according to Vísir.
German news outlet Bild quoted a police officer who said the fire caused extensive damage to the building and that it is unlikely the structure can be saved. The exact extent of the destruction is not fully known, and assessments are ongoing.
The fire alarm system at the Eagle’s Nest activated shortly after 21:00 local time yesterday evening. By the time emergency responders arrived, the building was already fully ablaze, Vísir reported.
The cause of the fire, the full extent of the damage, and whether there have been any injuries or fatalities have not yet been confirmed. Questions also remain about who currently manages or owns the building.
