Reynir Pétur Steinunnarson gained national attention in 1985 when he walked around Iceland to draw attention to the issues faced by disabled people and to support a new sports facility at Sólheimar. The human-interest story was first reported by Mannlíf.

One of the main goals of Steinunnarson’s walk was to raise public awareness of challenges affecting disabled people in Iceland. At the same time, he aimed to gather funds for the construction of a new sports house at Sólheimar, an initiative that highlighted both advocacy and practical support for the community.

Steinunnarson was born healthy, but when he was only a few months old, he contracted meningitis. The consequences of this illness for him are not known.
