IKEA’s traditional Yule goat has returned to its usual spot outside the store in Kauptún, Garðabær, according to a report by mbl.is. The goat, long a symbol of festive cheer, has become a familiar sight each Christmas season for shoppers at Iceland’s sole IKEA location.

Over the years, the Yule goat has been no stranger to trouble. It has faced both acts of vandalism and harsh Icelandic weather, which have sometimes left it damaged. Despite these challenges, the goat continues to reappear each holiday season, standing as a local tradition in Garðabær.

The goat has notably been the target of arson, with the last incident occurring a decade ago in 2016. Since then, it has managed to avoid any repeat burnings, much to the relief of both staff and visitors.

“Staff are fond of the goat; it has a cosy Christmas moment when erected,” said Guðný Camilla Aradóttir, as reported by Vísir (translated from Icelandic). The annual appearance of the goat has evidently become a cherished part of the season for those working at and visiting IKEA Garðabær.
