Helgi Laxdal, a former Pirate Party candidate for Alþingi, Iceland’s parliament, has proposed the creation of an Antifa organisation in Iceland. He made the suggestion in a Facebook group, triggering significant attention on social media. The story was first reported by Nútíminn.

In his posts, Helgi Laxdal suggested gathering a large group to confront people he referred to as fascists during counter-demonstrations. He also discussed the idea of using unlawful and potentially lethal violence against those he defined as fascists.

Another former Pirate Party candidate joined the online conversation by proposing that the voting rights of people who support Donald Trump should be revoked, according to coverage by Fréttin. These remarks have added to the controversy and attracted further debate.

The Pirate Party is an established political party in Iceland, founded in 2012 and known for its platform based on direct democracy and digital rights. Alþingi, where both candidates once ran, is Iceland’s national parliament and one of the oldest in the world.
