The Icelandic Naming Committee (Mannanafnanefnd) has added eleven new given names to Iceland’s official register, including Aragorn, Enzo, Lyngrós and Traust, following rulings made earlier this month. Mannlíf first reported on the approvals, which make these names eligible for registration in Iceland.

The committee maintains the official register of Icelandic given names and decides whether new names are acceptable according to rules on language, tradition and suitability. It approved a wide mix of names: the male names Aragorn, Enzo and Traust; and the female names Lyngrós, Auróra, Ragndís, Ksenía, Flórentína and Bessý.

Two names were rejected by the committee: Ceasar and Ýsafold, Mannlíf reported. In total, the committee finished processing a large number of name requests and approved most of them in this round. The decisions were issued on 16 and 21 October.
