Lerwick Port Authority, the main port operator in Shetland, has stated that it is open to exploring opportunities for a new ferry connection to Iceland, according to a report first published by RÚV English. Interest in re-establishing a direct ferry service between Iceland and the UK was recently highlighted by the Shetland Times and later summarised by RÚV English.

The Shetland Times reported that Lerwick Port Authority sees potential in a renewed ferry link and is considering possible opportunities. However, the Port Authority has not yet announced any concrete plans or partnerships. Its statement signals an initial willingness to engage in talks for such a route.

According to RÚV English, the renewed interest in a UK–Iceland ferry comes amid discussions on strengthening transport links between Iceland and its North Atlantic neighbours. No specific operators or timelines have been presented so far.
