The Icelandic government has signed a declaration of intent with Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg (ICE-SAR), the national search and rescue association, to secure state participation in renewing the last three of its rescue ships. This agreement was first reported by Icelandic media outlet mbl.is.

There is disagreement among sources about the total number of rescue ships covered by the renewal. While some reports state that the state is committed to participating in the renewal of 13 ships, other sources refer to a plan to complete construction of 16 ships in the coming years.

The declaration was signed by Borghildur Fjóla Kristjánsdóttir, the chair of ICE-SAR, and Ministers Hanna Katrín Friðriksson and Þorbjörg S. Gunnlaugsdóttir. The signing took place during the Björgunar 26 international rescue conference, held at Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, which was attended by about one thousand people.
