The upcoming 40th anniversary of the landmark meeting between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev at Reykjavík’s Höfði house is prompting fresh reflection in Iceland’s media. Reykjavík Grapevine, an English-language magazine, marked the occasion in its October 13, 2026, issue by highlighting the historic significance of the summit in the Icelandic capital and discussing recent cultural works tied to the event.
The magazine examined the new film The Brink Of War, which was shot on location at Höfði house. This historical building served as the actual site where the U.S. and Soviet leaders met in 1986 for talks that would significantly impact the course of the Cold War.
To deepen public understanding, Reykjavík Grapevine is also opening its archives to republish Valur Gunnarsson’s analysis and reflections on the 1986 summit, offering readers renewed insights into the impact and legacy of the event.
