The Icelandic Chamber of Commerce (Viðskiptaráð) has published 46 proposals intended to make government operations more efficient and improve the country’s fiscal position, according to reporting by DV.

The Chamber estimates these new measures could generate 110 billion Icelandic krónur in state revenue. Out of this total, 19 billion krónur could be realized as soon as next year, DV reported.

Alongside its recommendations, the Chamber released a commentary sharply critical of the government’s new budget bill, expressing concern that the state’s net borrowing position will be negative by 67 billion krónur next year. The statement also raised concerns about the planned spending reductions, calling a large share of them problematic. These criticisms were reported by the Icelandic news outlet mbl.is.
