Factories at Grundartangi in western Iceland are currently experimenting with ways to capture and prevent a large share of their carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere, according to a report by RÚV, Iceland’s national public broadcaster.

These factories emit around 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. The experiments underway aim to see if a significant portion of these emissions can be captured on site.

RÚV reporters who visited the site said staff welcomed them with smiles and curiosity.
