A total of 163 companies, municipalities and institutions in Iceland have been recognised by the Jafnvægisvogin project for achieving gender balance in their executive management. This was first reported by Kaffið, building on coverage in Bæjarins besta, DV and Trölli.

The number of organisations receiving recognition this year rose by 27.3% compared to the previous year. According to the reporting, women currently hold 21.3% of CEO or executive director positions in Iceland.

The awards were presented at a ceremony held on 14 October 2026. Among the recognised organisations were Akureyrarbær, which is Akureyri municipality in north Iceland, as well as Norðurorka, MAk and HA. Fjallabyggð municipality was also listed among this year’s recipients.

The Westfjords region, a remote and mountainous part of north-west Iceland, saw two organisations receive the Jafnvægisvogin recognition for 2026.

The full list of the 163 recognised organisations has not yet been published. It is also not yet clear which exact organisations are referred to by the acronyms MAk and HA, as reported by Kaffið.
